Family Court Assistance Office

The Family Court Assistance Office (FCAO) is part of a statewide effort to improve the accessibility of the court system to the public. A Family Court Facilitator operates under the provisions of Oregon Revised Statute 3.428, with the authorization to provide specific services. The Family Court Assistance Office should only be contacted if you are representing yourself and have procedural questions or need clarification on family law forms.

  • Tell you what kind of case to file
  • Provide legal advice or opinion
  • Assist with altering statewide approved forms
  • Tell you what to write on forms
  • Fill out forms for you
  • Assist people who are represented by lawyers
  • Assist with Protective Order, Guardianship, or Adoption cases
  • Provide information to one party that would not be given to all other parties

It is important to note that as a self-represented litigant, you are acting as your own attorney. Although this service may aid you in that, it is not a replacement for valuable legal advice nor should it be considered so. Court staff are prohibited from engaging in the unlawful practice of law.

If you would like to meet with a Family Law Facilitator to review your documents, you must first fill our your forms as completely as possible. Once you have completed your family law forms, please call 541-704-3479 or email linnfamilycourt@ojd.state.or.us to schedule an appointment. When scheduling an appointment, we will need to know the type of documents you need reviewed, the days and times that work best for you, and your case number if you have one.

Appointments are 30 minutes in length, and are held between 1:30pm – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, except for court holidays. Children are not allowed to attend document review appointments.

  • Provide information on how to find family law forms and how to complete them
  • Provide information about court procedures, rules, and other educational materials
  • Refer to agencies and resources that provide legal and other services
  • Provide document review to make sure forms are complete

  • People of any income level
