Family Law Assistance Program
The Family Law Assistance Program is a Self-Help Program and part of a statewide effort to improve access to justice for persons representing themselves in family law cases. The facilitators operate under the provisions of ORS 3.428, with authorization to provide specific services.
In the Family Law Assistance Program office, you will complete an intake form and receive a brief overview of the process from one of the facilitators. Court forms are available in the Forms Library, by email request to wsh.familylaw@ojd.state.or.us, or by in-office purchase for .25 cents per page. It is important to read and follow all instructions on the court forms.
Facilitators can:
- Explain court forms and court procedure.
- Review court forms to make sure they are complete.
- Provide information about agencies and resources available in the community.
Facilitators cannot:
- Provide legal advice or legal strategies.
- Tell you what you should do or give an opinion about your options.
- Tell you what to write on a form or what to say in court.
- Fill out court forms for you.
The Family Law Assistance Program offers workshops to review forms prior to filing. Before the appointment, fill out the forms to the best of your ability. Important: If you arrive for a workshop with blank forms, the appointment will be rescheduled. Please avoid bringing children.
