Free Help for Family Law Cases

All of our courts offer family law facilitation services. Our facilitators provide free information and help to people who are representing themselves in family law cases.

Please note that in most courts the facilitators are only able to help with family law issues. This includes cases related to divorce, separation, annulment, child custody, and child support. 

Contact your court's program for more information about the types of cases they help with.

These facilitators can give you information but not legal advice. If you need legal advice, please talk to a lawyer. Find a lawyer through the Oregon State Bar.

What Facilitators Can Do:

  • Help you find the right forms and understand how to complete them.
  • Explain how court procedures and rules work.
  • Explain how to begin a court action.
  • Refer you to agencies or resources that provide legal services and information.
  • Review documents and forms to make sure they are complete.

What Facilitators Cannot Do:

  • Recommend one procedure over another.
  • Tell you what you should do or give an opinion about your options.
  • Advise or recommend you take a particular action.
  • Recommend a specific attorney or guess about the outcome of your case.
  • Tell you what to write on a form or what to say in court.

Remote Family Law Facilitation Services

Most of our courts provide the option to get help from family law facilitators remotely by phone or online video meeting.
