Oregon Court Rules and Orders
Oregon's circuit courts use a mix of statewide and local rules. These rules help courts run smoothly and fairly.
Uniform Trial Court Rules (UTCRs)
UTCRs apply to all 36 circuit courts in Oregon. These rules are the same across the state. They help make court processes fair, consistent, and efficient.
Supplemental Local Rules (SLRs)
SLRs are created by each circuit court. They add to the UTCRs and reflect local needs. These rules help courts manage local procedures and practices.
Presiding Judge Orders (PJOs)
PJOs are issued by the presiding judge of a circuit court. They cover how that court runs, especially during emergencies or special situations. PJOs can be different in each county. For example, they may address jury scheduling, public health issues, or courthouse closures. Chief Justice Orders (CJOs)
CJOs are issued by the Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. They apply to all courts in Oregon. CJOs set statewide policies, such as how remote hearings work or how people are released for trial.
See below for a list of current and upcoming rules and orders, including UTCRs, SLRs, PJOs and CJOs.
When Rules Take Effect
Most new or updated rules go into effect on February 1 each year.
Sometimes, rules are adopted "out of cycle" with special approval from the Chief Justice.
