Court Visitors

About Court Visitors

A court visitor must be appointed in adult guardianships, and may be appointed in conservatorships and minor guardianships. The visitor is someone who has training or expertise to evaluate the case. The visitor makes recommendations to the court regarding the capacity of the respondent, and whether the proposed guardian is appropriate.

Collaborative Meetings

To support court visitors with their essential work, OJD has begun a quarterly program for group discussion among visitors that will include visitor training topics. Court visitors interested in an invitation to these sessions may contact JFCPD to register.

Court Visitor Presiding Judge Orders
Decisions regarding visitor qualifications, standards and procedures are delegated to the Presiding Judge of each circuit court and are often established by Presiding Judge Order (PJO). Below is a library of available court visitor related PJOs. If you do not see your specific county, or have any questions, please reach out to your local court.
Each circuit court has their own set of additional rules, known as Supplementary Local Rules (SLRs). Some courts include court visitor fees, qualifications, and procedures in their SLRs. Protective Proceeding SLRs are found in Chapter 9 for each court.
