On December 21, 2022, Governor Kate Brown remitted the unpaid fines and fees in approximately 3,350 Oregon traffic violation cases in Oregon circuit courts that have resulted in driver license suspensions due to failure to pay the fine or failure to appear in the case and that meet additional criteria determined by the Governor. The Governor’s remission order allows affected individuals to seek reinstatement of their driver license through the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV).
The Oregon Judicial Department (OJD) is responsible for implementing the Governor’s order and for notifying the DMV when a person no longer owes fines and fees on a circuit court case that is covered by the Governor’s order.
A list of the cases included in the Governor’s remission order may be found
here. If you are not sure whether your circuit court case was included in the Governor’s fine remission order, you can look up your record on the free
Oregon Judicial Department Online Records Search website (search by your name or your case number). The results will indicate whether you have any fines or fees outstanding for that case.
OJD will not send individual notices to people with cases affected by the Governor’s order.
If you have questions about how to apply for reinstatement of your driver license or other questions related to your driving privileges, please contact the DMV.
It is important to note that the majority of the cases affected by the Governor’s remissions order on December 21, 2022 are from Oregon’s municipal and justice courts (not the state circuit courts/OJD). Each individual city municipal court or county justice court is responsible for the remission of fines in those cases. Read the Governor’s FAQ for more information.
