Jury Task Force

Task Force on Removing Barriers to Jury Service

About the Task Force

In 2025, the Oregon State Legislature created the Task Force on Removing Barriers to Jury Service. They did this by passing a law called Senate Bill 1175

This task force has four main jobs:

  • Look at how Oregon pays people who serve on juries, see how that affects how many people show up for jury service, and compare Oregon to other states.
  • Suggest ways to improve how jurors are paid so more people are willing and able to serve.
  • Come up with ideas for how to teach the public about jury service and how jurors are paid.
  • Find and suggest solutions to other problems that make it hard for people to serve on a jury.

What the Task Force Will Do

  • Meet regularly to discuss the issues listed above.
  • By December 15, 2026, create a final report that describes what they learned. This report may also include recommendations for law changes.
  • Turn in the final report to the Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court, the Oregon Governor, and the state legislature.
